The best seat in the house is by the window.

Indoor cats love a view. Fix a perch at sill height on the inside and a feeder on the outside of the same pane: the birds get breakfast, your cat gets a show, and the glass keeps everyone apart.

Buying guide

Cat TV, set up properly.

“Cat TV” is the simplest enrichment there is for an indoor cat: a comfortable seat at the window, and something worth watching on the other side of the glass. Put a perch on the inside of a pane and a feeder on the outside of the same pane, and you've got both.

Getting it right

  • Smooth, clean glass only. Suction cups need flat, untextured glass with no film.
  • Test the perch with your hand before your cat jumps up.
  • Supervise the first few sessions and check the cups weekly.
  • Give the birds time. Most settle within days once they learn the cat can't reach them.

Keeping cats indoors is one of the best things you can do for local wildlife. Cat TV makes indoor life more interesting for them, too. Read our Cat TV guide.

Good questions

Asked & answered.

Will a window feeder stress my cat or the birds?

The glass keeps them apart, and most birds learn quickly that an indoor cat can't reach them. If your cat gets frustrated (chattering or pawing constantly), give it shorter sessions and plenty of play.

Do cat window perches damage windows?

No. Suction cups leave at most a faint ring that wipes off. Never fit one to tinted film or textured glass.
